On Friday Greg suggested we go blueberry picking. It was a little hot, and you know how I get in the heat. Luckily it was not too hot. Elijah announced that he wanted to stay home, something about wanting to type on the computer. The Farmer didn't want to be outside all of a sudden. Needless to say we all went to the farm. It was a beautiful day. The heat actually made picking more fun. I could hear the clicking and droning of the cicadas. The aroma of warm berries was everywhere.
The view across the road from our particular blueberry patch . . .
This was Eden's first blueberry excursion. We just couldn't keep up with her. It was truly a Blueberries for Sal adventure without the bears. She would put a token berry or two in the box, and then eat three or four berries. Soon after she discovered the container full of berries, she abandoned the bushes for already picked berries. Why exhaust yourself right? ;-)
And there they go, two at a time into her mouth!
I was in awe of all of the berries too. There were rows and rows and rows of berry bushes - a lot different than the scene in our garden.
All of the children enjoyed our trip to the farm. Elijah was ready to come back for more picking even before we left. When we came home, Greg made blueberry version of his cherry hand pie. We picked exactly eight and a half pounds of blueberries. Some we are freezing so we can use blueberries in pancakes and muffins, some are for jam for the winter and some are for immediate eating. From the looks of things, I think we are actually going to need a lot more berries, so we will be going picking again very, very soon.
Tommorrow: "we be jammin' !" Sorry I couldn't resist the pun. Happy Monday everyone!
